SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Maisie Burnham and McKelle Meek were named the WCC All-Academic Team on Wednesday, with three other Pilots earning honorable mention: Rhyan Mogel, Emme Shearer and Lainey Spear.
This is the third year in a row that Meek has earned All-Academic honors. She becomes the first Pilot to make the team three times since Maddie Muhlheim in 2022. Meek, who's pursuing a master's in finance, has been a stalwart of the backcourt, averaging 5.9 points and 4.4 assists per contest. Her 136 total assists ranks third in the conference, her assists per game average fourth and her assist-to-turnover ratio first (3.24). That assist-to-turnover ratio is also fifth nationally.
Burnham's selection to the All-Academic team is the second of her career. Also pursuing a master's in finance, Burnham was named an All-WCC First Team selection on Tuesday. She averaged 17 points per game on 48.3% shooting, good for second in the conference. She was also second in total points (526) and made 150 free throws, the fifth most by a Pilot in a single season. She's scored at least 20 points 13 times this year and scored a career-high 31 points against Washington State.
The Pilots put together one of the best regular seasons in program history, posting a 28-3 overall record and a 17-3 record in WCC play. Their 28 wins are the most they've had in a single season as a Division I program and the second most ever for them all-time. Their 17 conference wins are a program record as well as their 15 home wins this season. They earned a share of the WCC Regular Season Title this season for the first time since 1997.
Portland's next stop is the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas for the Credit Union 1 WCC Championship. The Pilots hold a bye straight to the semifinals, with their first game coming on Monday, March 10 at 2:30 p.m. on ESPN+. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
