LAKE NATOMA, Calif. – Portland Pilots Rowing resumes action this weekend at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) championships. Races run from Saturday to Sunday, April 26-27.
Racing for the Pilots on Saturday begins at 8:20 a.m. with the varsity eight. The second varsity eight race next at 9:10 a.m. followed by the varsity four at 10:20 p.m. The novice four boat finishes off the races for Portland, racing at 1:50 p.m.
All varsity boats will race for lanes on Saturday, determining assignments for the final on Sunday. The novice four will race on Saturday to determine whether they make the Grand Final, Petite Final or Third Final. There are three heats for the novice four, with the Pilots in the second heat. The top two crews will race in the Grand Final on Sunday at 12:20, the third and fourth place teams will race in the petite final on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the fifth place and lower-finishing teams will race at 3:50 p.m. on Saturday.
The Pilots are coming off a successful turn at the Portland Invite on April 12, taking two out of three races on their Senior Day. The first varsity eight was named the WCC Crew of the Week for the second time this year, having previously won for their performance at the Puget Sound Invite where the Pilots took three races.
