SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Portland Pilots baseball saw six players earn All-WCC honors on Tuesday, headlined by Jonas Salk making the All-WCC First Team. Tyler Howard earned All-WCC Second Team honors, Brady Bean, Cody Nitowitz and Ryan Rembisz earned honorable mention and Nitowitz and Trey Swygart also both made the freshman team.

Salk earns All-WCC First Team honors – and All-WCC honors altogether – for the first time in his career. Salk was electric at the plate, posting a .291 batting average with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 43 RBI's. His 13 homers are the most by a Pilot since 2008 and also rank fourth in the WCC. In conference play alone, Salk's .807 slugging percentage led the conference, and he also ranked third in homers (nine) and OPS (1.287), fourth in runs scored (24) and doubles (nine), seventh in RBI's (26) and eighth in batting average (.373).

Howard makes the second team after earning honorable mention last season. At .372, Howard's batting average led all WCC hitters as well as his on-base percentage (.478). His 29 walks is tied for sixth in the conference while his 18 walks in conference play leads the WCC. He put together the longest on-base streak by any Pilot since Ben Ortman in 1993.

Bean was another top batter for Portland, tying for the team lead in doubles (11) and batting average (.306) while also holding the top spot in RBI's (48) and total hits (64), with his RBI total ranking seventh in the WCC and his hit total ninth. His 28 RBI's against WCC opponents sits at fourth in the WCC. The only Pilot to play every game, Bean's 48 RBI's are tied for the 11
th most in program history, and he's just fifth Pilot in the 2000s to hit that total.

Rembisz moved into a starter role his final year on The Bluff and put up solid numbers for the Pilots. He posted a 4.93 ERA with a 4-4 record overall in 15 appearances and 12 starts. He's the only Pilot to eclipse 70 innings thrown at 73.0, which also ranks second in the conference. He was also seventh in ERA  and eighth in opponent batting average (.259) and wins. He was the only WCC pitcher to walk fewer than 20 batters with at least 60 innings thrown and led the conference in walks allowed per nine innings (1.85). Earlier this year, Rembisz threw the first perfect game in program history on Feb. 25 against the Seattle U Redhawks, just the 21
st nine-inning perfect game in NCAA history.

Nitowitz earned honorable mention and makes the freshman team in his first season with the Bluff Boys. Nitowitz matched Bean with a .306 average, five doubles and 12 RBI's. Against WCC opponents, he was tied for the conference lead in walks (18), ranked sixth in on-base percentage (.490) and eighth in batting average (.373).

Swygart rounds out the honorees, making the freshman team in his first season. Swygart played in 31 games for Portland, batting .333 with six homers and 14 RBI's. Along with fellow freshman Cole Katayama-Stall he hit the most homers by a true freshman in a season since Riley Henricks in 2008. Swygart also threw 31 innings on the mound for Portland, posting a 6.97 ERA. He was on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award.

The Pilots qualified for the WCC Baseball Tournament for the fourth straight season, slotting in as the fifth seed with a 13-11 WCC record and a 22-29 record overall. They will play the 4-seed LMU Lions on Wednesday, May 21 at 6:05 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
