PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland men's basketball has signed Joel Foxwell (Melbourne, Australia) to the roster for the 2025-26 season, head coach Shantay Legans announced Monday. Foxwell joins Timo George and early signee Dante Censori-Hercules as the third incoming freshman for the Pilots.
Foxwell (6-1, 180) has played at the highest level of Australian basketball at both the youth and professional levels. He spent last season as a development player for Melbourne United of the National Basketball League (NBL), the top professional league in the country.
Foxwell played the 2023-24 season for the Sandringham Sabres in the NBL1 South Division. Despite being just 18 years of age and playing against professionals, Foxwell averaged 10.7 points 3.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 stelas in almost 22 minutes per game.
While representing Victoria and at his first youth national championships in 2022, he led Vic Metro with 13.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists across the eight games.
He played for Victoria Navy at the 2023 Under-20 National Championships and averaged 21.8 points, 4.0 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals in the eight contests.
At the 2024 Under-20 Championships, he guided his team to the gold medal while putting up 18.4 points, 5.6 assists, 3.3 boards and 2.0 steals per game.
Foxwell is the fifth signee announced so far this spring by Coach Legans. He joins
George as well as Division I transfers
Matúš Hronský,
James O'Donnell and
Riley Parker.
Those newcomers will join returning lettermen Mikah Ballew, Kelson Gebbers and Jermaine Ballisager Webb and returning redshirts Carlin Briggs, NaVaughn Long and Preston Lee for the 2025-26 season.
