SAN BRUNO, Calif. – For the first time this season, Portland Pilots midfielder Efetobo Aror has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week, marking the third straight week a Pilot's won the award. He's the third Pilot to win this season and the second to win defensive honors.
Aror scored the game-winning goal for the Pilots on Sept. 30 against the Saint Mary's Gaels, his second goal of the season. It's the first time in his career Aror has posted multiple goals in a season. Aror also was crucial defensively in securing a shutout which was the fourth shutout in a row for Portland and fifth this season. Aror was similarly stellar against the Michigan Wolverines, helping the Pilots secure a 2-1 victory for their ninth win against a Big Ten team since 2016.
The Pilots are riding a four-match win streak after wins against Saint Mary's and Michigan. Their victory over the Gaels put them at 2-0 in WCC play for the first time since 2022. Their nine goals in two conference matches are the most since 2016 and their plus-nine goal differential was the best through two conference matches since 1991.
Portland takes on the No. 22 San Diego Toreros on the road this Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
