PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland Pilots celebrated Senior Day on Wednesday at the Tom and Meg Names Family Foundation Beach Volleyball Courts, honoring Jordan Bardouche, Elizabeth Ortiz, Valerie Bruk, Leonie Freytag, Elin Larsson, Michela Strati, and Hannah Debban before closing out their home slate with a doubleheader against Corban.

Portland battled throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell 3-2 and 4-1 to the Warriors.

In the opening match, the Pilots picked up two strong straight-set victories. On flight one, Leonie Freytag and Elin Larsson controlled the match with a 21-16, 21-14 win. The duo of Jeryn Hildenbrand and Josie Povey added another point in flight five, defeating their opponents 21-18, 21-16. Corban secured the dual with wins on flight two and four before clinching the match in flight three in a tightly contested three-set battle. Valerie Bruk and Elizabeth Ortiz pushed their match to a third set but fell just short, 19-21, 21-11, 21-19.

In the second matchup, Portland earned its lone point from Bruk and Ortiz in flight three. The senior pair responded with a gritty three-set victory, 21-18, 18-21, 15-10. Freytag and Larsson also forced a decisive third set in flight one, but Corban pulled away late to secure the win. The Warriors claimed the remaining courts to take the second match 4-1.

Portland will next travel to Seattle, Wash., for the Alki Beach Invitational, where they will face Boise State, Washington, Florida Atlantic, and Oregon.
