BOISE, Idaho --- Junior Paige Rachor recorded her first top-20 finish of the season to lead the Pilots at Bronco Fall Invitational, which concluded at Spurwing Country Club on Tuesday. The 36-hole event was shortened to two rounds after a frost delay on Monday morning.
Rachor opened with a 75 during Monday’s opening round before carding a nine-over par 153. Rachor tied for 18th place overall, her best showing of the fall.
Just behind Rachor was UP freshman McKennon O’Rourke, who tied for 26th place individually. O’Rourke fired two rounds in the 70’s, coming in with a 12-over par 156 (78-78) on the par-72 course. The 26th-place showing is O’Rourke’s best collegiate finish.
Santa Clara’s Miki Ueoka fired back-to-back 70’s to claim medalist honors. Ueoka was two strokes better than runner-up Jennifer Bermingham of UC Riverside and three strokes better than third place finisher Sage Suffecool of Gonzaga.
Wyoming, Santa Clara, UC Riverside and tournament host Boise State all finished with identical team scores of 603. Wyoming was awarded the team title, courtesy a tie-breaker. Gonzaga rounded out the top five with a 607.
The Pilots opened with a 312 on Monday before finishing with a 631 overall. UP finished ninth at the 12-team event.
Portland sophomore Bridget Gleason had one of her best collegiate showings, finishing with a 160 (78-82). Gleason tied for 40th, while senior Taryn Kuida was two strokes back after two rounds of 81. Sophomore Sandra Jefferies saw her first action with the Pilots, coming in with a 165 (81-84).
The Pilots have one more tournament on the fall schedule. In November, UP travels to Arroyo Grande, Calif., for the Cal Poly Invitational. The two-day event begins on Monday, Nov. 3, at the Cypress Ridge Golf Club.
