LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. --- Portland freshman Sara Banke carded three rounds in the 70’s to pace the Pilots at the Lumberjack Shootout, which wrapped-up on Wednesday at Wigwam Country Club. Banke is coming off her second career top-10 finish last week at the Lexus Classic.
Host school Northern Arizona won the team title by holding off Florida International and Indiana, who tied for second place. NAU’s score of 871 was 14 strokes better than both the Panthers and the Hoosiers. The Lumberjacks placed three golfers in the top 10 en route to the tournament title. UP finished in 14th place at the three-day, three-round event.
Tarleton State’s Carla Cooper and Bethany Leclair of Northern Arizona shared medalist honors after tying for first with identical scores of 215. Leclair made up three strokes during the third and final round to force a tie.
Banke closed with a three-over par 75, giving her a total of 232 (+16) and a tie for 44th place. Both junior McKennon O’Rourke (80-80-76) and senior Lisa Okazaki (77-78-81) shot a 236, while senior Bridget Gleason finished with a 252 (86-81-85).
Portland next concludes the 2010-11 season at the West Coast Conference Championships, which are set for April 18-19 at San Juan Oaks Country Club in Hollister, Calif.
