FRESNO, Calif. --- Portland freshman Sara Banke, who shot an even par 72 during the final round, tied for eighth individually to pace the Pilots at the Fresno State Lexus Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at the Cooper River Country Club. It’s the second career top-ten finish for Banke, who tied for sixth at the Bobcat Invitational in September.
Banke opened with 75 and a 78 during the first two rounds on Monday, before firing her career-low round. Her final score of 225 is also a career low for the native of Danville, Calif.
Katrina Hegge of San Francisco improved by one stroke during each round to finish with an even par 216 and claim medalist honors. Alice Kim of UC Davis was three strokes back in second place.
Kim’s second-place showing helped UC Davis win the team title with an overall score of 893. That was well clear of runner-up Cal Poly, which combined for a 910. USF placed third with a score of 913, while Portland finished 16th with a 995.
Also competing for Portland was senior Lisa Okazaki (250), junior McKennon O’Rourke (253) and senior Bridget Gleason (267).
The Pilots next travel to Litchfield Park, Ariz., for the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam Country Club. The two-day tournament is set to begin on March 14.
