CORVALLIS, Ore. --- Portland senior Taryn Kuida carded a 233 to tie for 13th place, pacing the Pilots at the Giustina Memorial Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at the Trysting Tree Golf Club. Kuida tied for 11th place last week at Portland’s opening tournament of the season.
Kuida closed with a final-round 77 after opening with a pair of 78’s. Her total of 233 was just three strokes out of the top ten.
Oregon’s Kendra Little took home medalist honors, but it was tournament host Oregon State that won the team title. Little’s one-under par 215 bested runner-up Cara Freeman of OSU by four strokes.
Oregon State placed two golfers in the top-five and four in the top-15 to take home the title. OSU’s 904 was two strokes better than second-place Oregon. In third was San Francisco with a 911, Fresno State placed fourth with a 929 and Washington State capped the top-five with a 935.
Portland totaled a 962 (316-319-327) to finish ninth.
Kuida was the lone Pilot to fire all three rounds in the 70’s
Junior Paige Rachor was UP’s next top finisher, coming in 32nd after totaling a 239 (79-79-81). Sophomore Kalyn Dodge was five strokes behind Rachor and finished in a tie for 37th. Sophomore Bridget Gleason tied for 42nd place with a 250, while freshman McKennon O’Rourke was a stroke back.
The tournament featured both the men’s and women’s teams from several schools. The Oregon State men’s and women’s golf teams swept the team titles as the Beavers rallied to capture the combined, university team trophy.
Next up for the Pilots is the Bronco Fall Invitational at the Spurwing Country Club in Boise, Idaho. The two-day tourney begins on Monday, Oct. 13.
