RICHLAND, Wash. — A day after topping Eastern Washington 4-3, the University of Portland women’s tennis team was downed 4-3 by Idaho at the Columbia Basin Racquet Club.
Portland (2-3) dropped its match yesterday despite picking up the doubles point from the Vandals (3-1) with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Both victories were in tightly contested matches, with Lacey Pflibsen and Alice Tucker coming out on top 8-5 at No. 1, while Beate Valdmane and Valeska Hoath snuck out a 9-7 win at No. 3.
In singles action Portland was only able to pull off two victories as Stephanie Fuchs won in two sets over Silvia Irimescu at No. 3 singles. After a convincing first set victory, Valeska Hoath edged Molly Knox in a tight 7-6 second set decision at No. 5.
Portland continues its spring season with a 9 a.m. start time Feb. 11 inside the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center against cross-town rival Portland State.
