Men's CoursePORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams will be making the short trip to Spokane, Wash. for the West Coast Conference Championship on Saturday, Oct. 31. The two races will be held at Plantes Ferry Sports Stadium with the women's race beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the men's race following at 11:00 a.m.
"We are looking forward to a great competition," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "Obviously BYU is the heavy favorite this year. They probably have their strongest team since joining the WCC. It will be a great challenge for us."
Last year the men's team won the title with senior David Perry taking the individual crown, while senior Tansey Lystad was the first to cross the line in the women's race and helped lead her team to a second place finish. Rob Conner nabbed Coach of the Year and Perry and Lystad each received respective Runner of the Year honors.
This year the men's side returns two of the top five finishes from last year and the women will also see two of their top five back on the course this year. The men will take on an 8 kilometer course and the women will race 6 kilometers.
"We are really excited for this weekend and training has been great the last few weeks," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "BYU is the heavy favorite but we are ready to get in there and battle for every spot. Everyone on our team is in their best shape and way ahead of where they were a month ago. It should be a great meet."
This year the races will have
live scoring and a
video stream.
