Women's Schedule/ResultsSEATTLE, Wash. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams both took ninth place at the NCAA West Regional held at the Jefferson Park Golf Course on Friday afternoon. Lauren LaRocco led the women's side with an overall 19
th place finish and Jeff Thies placed 21
st overall for the men.
Oregon and Boise State placed first and second, respectively, in the women's 6-kilometer race, earning the automatic bids to Nationals. The Pilots placed third among West Coast Conference schools competing at the meet with San Francisco taking fifth and the 2015 WCC Champions Gonzaga finishing in sixth.
For Portland, LaRocco completed the muddy course in 21:06.6 and Sanna Mustonen came in at 37
th with a time of 21:22.7. Anna Farello (49
th, 21:34.1), Taryn Rawlings (75
th, 22:01.5), and Courtney Cox (109
th, 22:22.8) rounded out the top five finishers.
The top four teams to finish on the men's 10-kilometer race were programs from the Pac-12, with Washington taking the crown and Stanford finishing second. Portland was the top WCC team to finish and were closely followed by Gonzaga who took 10
th.
Thies navigated the course in 31:36.2 while teammate Danny Martinez completed the race in 31:53.6 earning an overall 33
rd place finish. The next three Pilots to cross the line were spread only six spots apart with Nick Hauger (46
th, 32:01.9), Alex Dillard (48
th, 32:03.7), and Timo Goehler (52
nd, 32:08.5).
