PORTLAND, Ore. --- On a windy Sunday morning at the 2015 Portland Fall Classic, the Pilots women's rowing team raced six boats on the Willamette River in downtown Portland. Portland's varsity eight began the day, posting a time of 18:36.62 on the 5300 meter course.

The Portland Fall Classic Regatta is a head race, meaning crews started one at a time with about 10-15 seconds in between each boat. Results are based on each boat's time.
 
The Pilots varsity eight finished ahead of Seattle U, while conference foe Gonzaga claimed the top spot.
 
"The highlight of the day came from the varsity eight race," Portland head coach Pasha Spencer said. "Gonzaga was trying to pass on the outside and from the Ross Island Bridge to the Morrison Bridge it was a good push between the two boats.

"We have room to bring stroke rates up for the next race and it was good to see our team work together and fight for position."

Portland's second eight followed the varsity eight, posting a time of 19:20.12, which also was second to the Zags. The Pilots also raced a pair of fours, with the varsity four covering the course in the time of 22:01.19. The second four claimed first place in its event, posting a time of 21:50.47.
 
Portland's novice crews capped the day for the Pilots, with the eight posting a time of 20:25.15, which was good enough for second place in the six-boat field. The novice four was the only novice crew to race, and they claimed a time of 27:35.42.
 
The Pilots next conclude the fall portion of their schedule at the Head of the Lake on Sunday, Nov. 8 in Seattle, Wash.
