Box Score HILLSBORO, Ore. --- Portland's non-conference baseball game against Oregon was suspended after 8.0 innings with the Ducks leading the Pilots 3-1 on a wet Wednesday night at Ron Tonkin Field. The game, which featured multiple rain delays, will be completed on May 17 in Eugene before the two teams play a previously scheduled game at PK Park.
Â
A host of Pilot pitchers held the Ducks hitless during the first four innings. But in the fifth, A.J. Balta broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI triple to deep right-center field. Steven Packard then made it a 3-1 game with a perfectly placed bunt down the third base line, which allowed Balta to cross home plate.
Â
The Ducks scored the game's first run in the top of the first inning without recording a hit as they benefited from four walks in the frame. Tim Susnara picked up the RBI when he drew a free pass with the bases loaded, which forced in Austin Grebeck.
Â
The Pilots answered that run with a tally in the bottom of the second inning. After Kevin Farley earned a one-out walk, Eric Sapp singled to left, giving the Pilots runners on first and second. Both runners then moved up 90 feet, courtesy a wild pitch, and Brian Pozos followed a Devin Kopas strikeout with a grounder to third base. But instead of ending the inning, the throw to first was off the bag, and Farley scored an unearned run to even the game at 1-1.
Â
The Pilots next return to The Bluff to host the Pacific Tigers for a three-game West Coast Conference series at Joe Etzel Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday night, while Sunday's finale will begin at 11 a.m.
