Sunday's ScheduleSAN DIEGO, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots varsity eight posted a solid time among some of the top crews in the country at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday morning on Mission Bay. Portland now moves on to the petite final, which is scheduled for Sunday.
The Pilots covered the 2000 meter course in a time of 7:02.6 to finish fourth in their heat, missing third place by a second and second place by a mere 2.5 seconds. The Pilots easily finished ahead of fifth-place Purdue. The varsity eight event featured three heats, with the top two crews from each heat advancing to the grand final.
Tennessee and LMU finished on top of Portland's heat and will be joined in Sunday's grand final by Miami, Kansas State, San Diego State and Old Dominion.
Portland's petite final is set for 10:56 a.m. and will feature crews from Fordham, George Washington, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's and St. Joseph's.
UP's second eight also raced on Sunday, posting a time of 7:32.2 in their heat. The second eight event also featured three heats, with Cal, Wisconsin, Texas, Gonzaga, USC and Washington State advancing to Sunday's grand final.
