Rachel Khaw is a freshman on the women's soccer team and she has taken on blogging duties for the 2016 season.
Entry #1
Sept. 9, 2016
Hello!
My name is Rachel Khaw and I am one of seven new freshmen on the team this year. HGB is too busy scoring goals and has kindly passed down the honors of blog duty to me. I hope to meet the high standards she set writing last year's blog, while giving insight from a freshman perspective over the course of this season!
Since this is my first blog entry, I thought it would be appropriate to give a little rundown on a few of the freshmen firsts and introduce you to the class of 2020.
First Road Trip
Our first road trip was to Cal, and as freshmen, our duties are to make sure all the gear is packed and ready for the trip. We worked together to pump up the balls and pack the water bottles and pretty soon we were all ready to go! Once practice started we were all pumped to prepare ourselves for a good pre-game practice. Unfortunately, our great start turned downhill as we soon realized that none of us had packed the cones and bibs for training…Here's how we had to improvise:
First Time Shopping for "Business Casual"
When we travel by plane we are required to wear "business casual". So before our first trip, Larkin, Natalie, and I decided to go shopping for some new travel attire. The funny thing is that none of us actually knew what "business casual" meant, and found ourselves walking around searching for silky blouses. When we showed up to travel, we found half of our class wearing casual dresses and the rest wearing fancy blouses. At this point still none of us are sure what fits the standards of "business casual".
Over the summer we spent tons of hours together, so I felt it was time to create a personal bio for each of my freshmen buddies.
I'm a big fan of nicknames so keep in mind that most of these nicknames are only used by meJ but please feel free to shout out one of these names if you ever see them!
Larkin Russell
Nicknames- LaLa, Larks, Lark, or LarkyBarky (this nickname was given by our lovely trainer T-fav)
Larkin is a HUGE cat lover, she never stops talking about Archie. If she were to choose between saving Archie or a million dollars from a fire….she would choose Archie. She's always bumpin' great tunes and "pumped" to get through the day. (fun fact: "pumped" is Larkin's #1 vocabulary word). She loves popcorn and is always willing to talk and have a fun time.
Larkin and Archie the cat
Kimberly Hazlett
Nicknames-Kimmers, Kim, Kimmy, and Burly
Kim loves people. She especially loves talking and saying hi to everyone (including strangers). Kim is always ready to go on adventures and hikes and she enjoys cruising around in her convertible white bug, Lily. Kim is always positive and is always there for support.
Lucy Davidson
Nicknames- Lulu, Lucille, Lu, and The Lucinater
Lucy loves owning tea. She's had a drawer full of different types of teas since summer. But instead of drinking her tea or eating three meals a day, Lucy enjoys munching on snacks by the hour. She is the social butterfly of the freshman class and is always making sure everyone gets involved.
Rylee Seekins
Nicknames-Ry, Seekdog, RyRy, and Roiley
At 5'2'' Rylee is one of the shortest on the team, but her giant truck makes up for it. And when I say giant…I mean I can barely climb up in it. We went on several trips over the summer and I've found a new love for her truck. Rylee has a fantastic sense of style and never stops smiling--- except for when she sees a spider.

Natalie Muth (pronounced mooth)
Nicknames- Nat, Leelee, Natty, and Natittude
Out of all the nicknames LeeLee is my favorite because instead of what you would call a "blond moment", Natalie has "LeeLee" moments. Classic LeeLee moments: Shaking her chocolate milk and learning the hard way that the lid was not on, swinging her water bottle and unintentionally letting it fly, and carrying the loop of training cones and accidentally unbuckling the loop. Despite those moments, she always laughs it off. Natalie can make friends with just about anyone and it's easy to have a great conversation with her.
Brianna Miyama (Me-ya-ma)
Nicknames- Bri, Miymama, Breezy, and Miyama-mama
Bri is the most chill person you will ever meet. Honestly, it doesn't make sense how chill she is. She's a huge fan of Harry Potter and she's got the magic in her too. She won her club team's talent show with her mesmerizing card tricks. When she's not studying the art of magic or doing homework, you will most likely find her sleeping.
Rachel Khaw (written by LeeLee)
Nicknames – Rach, Ratchel, Raisin and Ka-Khawwwww
People often mistake Raisin to be quiet, but little do they know she will talk to literally anyone forever. She is always down to get go get food, watch her favorite TV shows (Coupled and Grey's Anatomy), or ride the bike, even if she calls it quits after 10 minutes. For the smallest on the team, she probably has the biggest appetite, which wouldn't be a problem if she didn't take 12 years to eat it all. Bottom line, Rachel is my favorite person to hang out with and you can always turn to her if you need a good laugh.
