PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team cruised to a 5-2 victory over the Seattle University Redhawks Friday afternoon at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots controlled the match despite having just five active players available.

Portland improved to 2-5 on the season, while Seattle dropped to 3-6 overall.

The Pilots set the tone in doubles with comfortable victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Jelena Lukic teamed with Jelena Lazarevic for a 6-1 victory at the top doubles spot, while Tatiana Grigoryan and Emily Soares secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at No. 2. The Pilots defaulted at No. 3 doubles.

Portland carried over the momentum to singles by winning four of the five singles matches in convincing fashion.

Lukic took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles over Michelle Lui. At No. 2 singles, Laverevic knocked off Madison Maloney 6-3, 6-3 and that was quickly followed by Grigoryan clinching the team victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Barbara Carey.

Soares then cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 position, while Seattle's Caroline Maltby outlasted Pilot freshman Anna Oberg in three sets to secure a point for the Redhawks at No. 5. Seattle also won the No. 6 singles point by default.

The Pilots will take a day off before returning to the court to host the UC Irvine Anteaters on Sunday at 10 a.m. Live scoring and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
