PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team will travel to Seattle, Wash., this weekend to compete at the 2017 Husky Open, which is scheduled for Saturday at the Montlake Cut. The Pilots will be racing their varsity eight, second eight, novice eight and varsity four at the regatta.
Â
"We have had consistent race pieces to this point and now we are looking at small changes and depth in our boats," said Portland head coach Pasha Spencer. "It will be great to be in Seattle and have our friends and family there for support."
Â
The varsity eight crew begins the day for the Pilots at 9:45 a.m. Next comes the second eight at 9:55, and the novice eight follows at 10:05. Portland's varsity four concludes the day at 10:15.
Â
Other crews competing at the Husky Open include Washington, Gonzaga, Seattle U, Puget Sound, Washington State, Western Washington, Lewis & Clark, Pacific and Pacific Lutheran.
Â
The historic Montlake Cut has been the Huskies' home course since 1960, and is considered one of the most iconic in collegiate rowing. Fans are encouraged to watch the Husky Open from the Canoe House at the east end of the Montlake Cut, from the Montlake Bridge or and at the finish line at the west end of the Cut.Â
Â
This is Portland's second official regatta of the spring after racing at the Sacramento State Invitational earlier in March.
