SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots had four rowers named to the 2025 WCC All-Academic First Team on Friday: Phoebe Barkann, Veronica Conklin, Julia Kiplinger and Gaby Twitchell. Along with those four, 17 Pilots earned honorable mention.
In order to qualify for the team, a student-athlete must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 and have played in 50% of a team's contests. The student-athlete cannot be in their first year with the team – either via transfer or newcomer status – and must hold sophomore or higher athletic standing.
All four Pilots selected partook in every race for Portland in the 2025 season. Barkann and Kiplinger were both part of the first varsity eight crew for every race, being part of a crew that took WCC Crew of the Week twice this season for wins at the Portland Invite and Puget Sound Invite. That crew took second as well in the Grand Final of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships as well. This is the second time Barkann has made the team.
Conklin raced several times with the first varsity eight as well as the second varsity eight crew this season, being a part of the second varsity eight crew that won at the Puget Sound Invite and the first varsity eight crew that took first at the Portland Invite. Twitchell was a mainstay of the second varsity eight, taking wins and Puget Sound and Vancouver Lake and also leading the Pilots to their only win at the WCC Championships. The second varsity eight took first in the Petite final this season.
