SALEM, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots Beach Volleyball team topped the Ducks in their second match of the weekend Sunday morning at Chemeketa College, in Salem Ore. After earning a 3-2 win over the Ducks on Saturday morning, the Pilots (2-0) faced off against the Ducks again on Sunday to repeat their victory with another 3-2 win.
Â
The Ducks (0-2) started off the morning overcoming sophomore Lauren Naatz and senior Brittney Markwith in a three set battle in the 4's dual to put Oregon up 1-0. Senior Djurdjina Milovic and junior Sarah Savoca then dominated in the fourth paring to respond for the Pilots, tying up the score 1-1.
Â
Junior Hannah Troutman and senior Katie Barker followed up the 4's dual with a comeback win in the 2's match putting Portland ahead at 2-1. Oregon then took the 3's match against freshman Emma Scanlan and junior Morgan Robinson, before freshman Cali Thompson and graduate student Tani Stephens could seal the win in a lengthy two set finale.
Â
"The wind was blowing pretty good for the majority of the day," said head coach Jeff Baxter. "For the most part, we did a nice job dealing with the wind and making adjustments to minimize its impact on us. It was great to see everyone contribute at a high level. WE are excited to beat a very good team, and fired up to get back on the sand and improve in a lot of areas in the weeks leading up to our matches in Monterey, Calif."
Â
The Pilots will next be in action at the Monterey Invitational on March 17 and 18 where they will face West Coast Conference opponents San Francisco and Saint Mary's, as well as UCLA, San Jose State, and Grand Canyon University.
