SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams concluded competition at the Dellinger Invitational this morning at the Springfield Golf Course.
Â
"The guys did a very good job today," said men's head coach Rob Conner. "I was happy with how strong they felt in the second half of the race."
Â
The No.18 Portland men finished sixth overall behind BYU's varsity squad as well as Pac-12 competition Stanford, Oregon, and Washington, and fellow WCC competitor Gonzaga. Stanford, BYU, and Oregon are ranked nationally at No.2, No.6, and No.8. Â Junior Logan Orndorf led the Pilots with his 28
th place finish in 24:09.9.
Â
"Orndorf did a great job," continued Conner. "I'm glad he got a good chance to show his fitness."
Â
On the women's side, freshman Jasmijn Lau debuted with an impressive fourth place finish and junior Taryn Rawlings rounded out the top-10 for the Pilots in ninth place. The Pilots are currently receiving votes in the national rankings, and finished fifth behind No.2 Oregon, No.5 Stanford, No. 19 BYU, and northwest rival Washington.
Â
"I'm happy with how the team did," said women's head coach. "Top five was the best we could have done today and we did that. Jasmijn and Taryn both ran great to get top-10 and Lacey really helped us by getting up to be our fifth runner."
Â
Both teams will be back in action tomorrow morning at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore.
