MASIDSON, Wis. --- The Portland Pilots women and men's B squad competed at NCAA PreNationals at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday morning, producing a sixth and ninth place performance respectively.
 
Redshirt senior Lauren LaRocco helped lead the Portland women to their sixth place finish with a seventh place finish, individually in 20:19.7. Redshirt senior Taryn Rawlings and junior Aohibe Richardson both recorded top-30 placements in 27^th  (20:46.3), and 30^th place (20:52.7), respectively. Senior Becca Howard also contributed to the team points finishing 84^th  (21:34.4), followed by senior Virag Weiler in 94^th (21:42.2).
 
"The team showed a lot of perseverance today, dealing with some injuries and still running tough," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "We beat the teams and we needed to secure an at large berth, which was the main goal. Lauren and Aoibhe were both outstanding and our four, five, and six all showed nice improvement."
 
The Portland men, who ran their B squad at the meet, competed well with the elite field. Michael Somers made his debut in the Pilot jersey and help Portland place ninth overall with an 22^nd place finish, individually (24:12.6). Redshirt sophomore Reuben Kiprono (24:45.7), redshirt junior Sam lomax (24:47.5), and redshirt sophomore Peter Allegre (24:50.9), were the next four Pilots to cross the finish line, all placing in the 60s at 60^th, 61^st, and 68^th, respectively.
 
The Pilots will next be in action at the Beaver Classic in Corvallis, Ore., on Oct. 19.
