SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- The #4 Portland Pilots men's cross country team defended their West Region titles today at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, with redshirt senior Nick Hauger claiming Portland's second straight individual title and leading Portland to their third team West Region title.

"It was a tremendous team effort! I am very proud of all the guys," said head coach Rob Conner. "Noah, Manu, and Caleb all fell down which took a little stream out of their performances, but they hung tough."

After Hauger out kicked a strong top pack in the last few hundred meters to finish first overall in (29:42.4), fellow redshirt senior Logan Orndorf was next to cross the line for Portland in 13
th place (29:49.9).

"Hauger is running at a new level, he has become an important team leader," continued Conner. "I am very proud of Logan, it was his first race. He improved a lot from last year too. Michael and Noah were impressive as well."

Seniors Michael Somers (29:55.5) and Noah Schutte (29:57.0) then finished back to back, crossing the line in 20
th and 21
st, respectively. All four Pilots earned All-West Region honors.

Junior Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse (30:04.7) was the final Pilot to score points for the team, finishing 26
th overall and just missed out on West Region honors. Redshirt junior Caleb Webb (30:04.7) and redshirt freshman Evert Silva (30:49.8) also ran a strong race, placing 35
th and 36
th, respectively.

"We are in a good spot and should be optimistic for a great effort next week," said Conner.

With a first place finish at the meet, Portland secures the automatic bid to the NCAA Championships, and will mark their 19
th program appearance at the meet. The NCAA XC Championships will take place next weekend in Madison, Wis, on Nov.17.
