PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland women's tennis has signed Marija Elenova (Skopje, Macedonia) to a National Letter of Intent and she will join the Pilots for the spring semester, head coach Susie Campbell announced this week.
Elenova was a member of the 2018 Republic of Macedonia National Fed Cup Team and had an International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world ranking of 736. She was the top-ranked player nationally at both the U16 and U18 age divisions and is currently the No. 3-ranked player in Macedonia.
"We cannot be more excited to welcome Marija to The Bluff," Campbell said. "She joins us as a player with wealth of international experience who is accustomed to playing in a team environment. Marija was a member of the Macedonian National Team in junior competition in all age groups. She received the invitation to Fed Cup Team this Spring and contributed with a singles win against Iceland and doubles win against Algeria. We believe that Marija will come prepared to contribute immediately and provide depth to our lineup right away."
Elenova joins a young Portland roster that features just one senior this season. The Pilots open the regular season in Hawai'i on Jan. 10 against Chaminade and then will take part in the Hawai'i Pacific Invitational on Jan. 11-13.
