SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots were defeated by a 4-3 margin on Saturday by San Francisco in a West Coast Conference women's tennis dual match at the Olympic Club. It marks the fourth consecutive 4-3 defeat for the Pilots who fall to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in WCC play.
Portland started strong by winning two of three doubles matches to claim the team point. Junior Radina Dimitrova and freshman Raphaelle Leblanc defeated Anna Sakiran and Shanna Dos Santos 6-1 at No. 2, but the Dons (3-11, 1-3 WCC) answered with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles. Sophomores Jelena Lukic and Anna Oberg posted a 6-2 win against Emily Maxfield and Mya Bui at the top of the lineup to secure the point.
The top of the lineup continues to produce for the Pilots as Lukic and Dimitrova posted straight sets wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively. Lukic defeated Maxfiled 6-4, 6-4, while Dimitrova knocked off Sokiran 6-3, 6-2.
San Francisco tied the score at 3-3 with straight set victories at the No. 3-5 spots, setting up the deciding match at No. 6 singles between Oberg and Dos Santos. Oberg claimed the first set in a tiebreaker, but Dos Santos pushed to a third set with a 6-1 win. She held on for the 6-3 score in the deciding set to win if for the Dons.
Portland returns home next week to host Loyola Marymount on Friday and No. 2 Pepperdine on Saturday. Both matches are set for 10 a.m. starts at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. Live scoring and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
