The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams produced exceptional finishes at the Nuttycombe Invite on Friday morning, with the men placing third and the women taking 12
th.
Leading the Portland men to a third place finish in Wisconsin was Senior Nick Hauger who crossed the line in sixth place with a time of 23:24.0. Redshirt junior Caleb Webb improved his last year's performance at the Nuttycombe invite from a 54
th place finish to a 17
th place finish in 23:39.2. Junior Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse and was the third man for Portland finishing 39
th (23:54.1) with senior Stuart McCallum just behind him in 40
th (23:56.9). Noah Schutte just snuck into the top-50 with a 46
th place finish in (23:59.3). Hager, Webb, Roudolff-Levisse, McCallum, and Schutte all recorded 8k PRs.
"Amazing team performance! I am very proud of the guys' determination and toughness," said men's head coach Rob Conner.
The #29 Portland women topped three higher ranked teams in the USTFCCCA Polls with their 12
th place team finish including, #13 Penn State, #25 Providence, and #27 Georgetown. Redshirt seniors Lauren LaRocco and Taryn Rawlings were the top finishers for the Pilots, crossing the line in 16
th (20:04.4) and 22
nd (20:09.6). Redshirt junior Aoibhe Richardson placed just within the top-50 in 46
th place with a time of (20:40.3).
"The team did a great job," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "We picked up some really important wins, but also know that we will be much better in another month. Lauren ran her usual excellent race and Aoibhe really impressed me with a big performance."
The Pilots will be back in action on Oct. 13 at the Warner Pacific XC Classic and back in Wisconsin at the NCAA PreNationals.
