EUGENE, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams concluded competition on Thursday evening at the Oregon Preview, with almost all Pilots competing in their first 5k or 7k's of their collegiate careers.

Led by redshirt sophomore Susan Van Weperen, the Portland women took first overall edging out the Oregon Ducks by one point. Van Weperen placed third overall in 17:11.0, with senior Courtney Cox just behind her in fourth (17:13.0). Redshirt sophomore Lacey Conner, redshirt junior Sophia Noto, junior Maddy Lyons, and redshirt senior Becca Howard rounded out the top-ten with a sixth (17:15.0), seventh (17:20,8), eighth (17:25.6), and 10
th (17:35.1) place finish, respectively.
"I thought everyone ran tough and competed well," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Some people felt a little rusty but they should be ready to go in two more weeks."

The Portland men finished second in the 7k to Oregon with senior Stuart McCallum crossing the line third (21:51.1) as the top individual finish for the Pilots. Redshirt sophomore Henry Hayes and redshirt junior Sam Lomax (22:10.1) also produced top-10 finishes for the Pilots with an eighth (22:05.5) and 10
th place finish, respectively.

Portland will next be in action at the Dellinger Invite on September 21, in Eugene, Ore.
