SALEM, Ore. – The Portland men's cross country team raced to the Charles Bowles Invitational team title, while the Pilot women took second place at the event hosted Saturday morning at Bush's Pasture Park.
Matt Schumann led three Pilots in the Top 10 individually with a third-place overall finish at the 8K course in a time of 24:50.9. Cameron Thompson placed sixth and Cole Shugart took eighth place for Portland as the squad cruised with a team total of 48 points. Portland State finished second with 71 points.
The Pilot women had four harriers finish in the top 20 paced by Grace Ritchie in fourth place with a time of 18:05.4 in the 6K meet. Ellee Becker crossed in 15th place, followed by Grace Oswin and Emily Bechen in 19th and 20th, respectively. Portland State won the team title with 54 points, while the Pilots had 86 team points for the runner-up finish.
The Pilots will next send a number of top runners to the Nuttycombe Invitational hosted by Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Course on Friday, Oct. 18.
