PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland men's basketball head coach Terry Porter is unavailable tonight, but three other Pilot head coaches and assistant coach Tyler Geving will fill in on the weekly show on 910 ESPN-Portland (KMTT) from 7-8 p.m.
Porter is on the road recruiting, so host Jason Swygard will be joined by Michelle French (women's soccer), Nick Carlin-Voigt (men's soccer) and Geoff Loomis (baseball) for a segment each. Geving will close the show with a preview of the upcoming Saturday home game against San Francisco.
The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. and feature a pregame Pilots BrewFest with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. The Pilot women's basketball team hosts San Diego at 2 p.m. and a ticket to the men's game will get fans free admission to that game as well.
French
completed her first season on The Bluff this fall and helped lead the women's soccer program to 11 wins and nearly tripled the goal-scoring output from the previous season. The former US Women's National Team player and assistant coach returned to her alma mater where she was a Pilot Hall of Famer and led the team to three NCAA Final Four appearances in the late 1990's.
Carlin-Voigt completed his third season with men's soccer and
led the Pilots to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last fall. Portland was unbeaten in its first 13 matches, was ranked as high as No. 7 nationally, and hosted its first NCAA playoff match since 2002, defeating UCLA by a 1-0 margin.
Loomis, another Portland Hall of Fame member, is in his fourth year at the helm of the baseball program. The Pilots won five of nine WCC series last year, swept a pair of games against Oregon, and
return a good core of pitching and position players to the lineup this year. Portland
opens the season this weekend with a four-game series at Hawai'i, while the home-opener is scheduled for March 5 versus Oregon.
