MONMOUTH, Ore. – Junior Victoria Weir won the individual title and led the Portland women's cross country team to the team championship at the Western Oregon University Sundowner on Friday night at Ash Creek Preserve.
Pilots took the top three spots individually in the 6K meet and won the team title with a score of 43 points. Weir made her team debut and claimed the individual honors with a time of 22:17.4. She was followed in second place by sophomore Ellie Misuraca (22:38.9) and then sophomore Grace Ritchie (22:41.9) in third. Sophomores Grace Oswin and Ellee Becker rounded out the scoring for Portland by finishing 14th and 23rd, respectively.
In the men's 8K meet, the Pilots finished second with a team score of 55. Senior Matt Schumann led the way for Portland with a fourth-place finish in a time of 24:57.8. Sophomore Cameron Thompson (25:08.1), sophomore Thomas Salas (25:15.1) and senior Trent Mazelli (25:23.1) each finished in the Top 15, while sophomore John Kavulich (25:25.2) was the final Pilot scorer in 17th place.
Portland's men's and women's teams will next be in action at the
Bill Dellinger Invitational hosted by University of Oregon at Pine Ridge Golf Club in Springfield, Ore. The men's 8K race begins at 10:30 a.m. followed by the women's 6K at 11:30 a.m.
