PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland baseball program officially announced the 2020 schedule on Wednesday, and due to the on-going construction of Joe Etzel Field the Pilots will be playing home games this season in the greater Portland area and Southwest Washington.
Â
"Obviously we can't wait to play in the new stadium," said Portland head coach Geoff Loomis. "In the meantime, we also recognize the unique opportunity to bring our brand of baseball to the Ridgefield and Hillsboro communities. There's a sense of urgency to get the stadium completed and it's been fun to watch the day-to-day progress that was made this fall. We're forever grateful to the generous Pilot supporters and administration for making this a reality."
The Pilots open the 2020 campaign with a four-game non-conference series against the Nevada Wolfpack at the Ridgefield Sports Complex, beginning on Thursday, Feb. 14. Other home dates in February include a four-games series with Utah Valley (Feb. 20-22) at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, and another series in Ridgefield against Stephen F. Austin (Feb. 28 - March 1) at the end of the month.
Â
March brings the opening of West Coast Conference play with the San Diego Toreros visiting the northwest March 12-15. That series will take place at Goss Stadium in Corvallis.
Â
The Pilots will also host Seattle (March 25) and Washington State (March 30) for non-conference games at Concordia's Hilken Community Stadium, and Portland will play one more series in Hillsboro against Pacific (March 26-28) before returning to campus.
Â
April's games at Joe Etzel Field will feature seating on the grass berm only, and the Pilots are scheduled to officially open the re-built stadium May 15-17 when they host Saint Mary's.
Â
The non-conference road schedule features a trip to Omaha, Neb., to face Omaha (March 6) and Creighton (March 7-8), and the Pilots will also travel to Boise, Idaho, to play the Boise State Broncos (March 17-18), who are in their first season since resurrecting the program.
Â
Portland plays a home-and-home with Oregon (April 13-14) in April, and the Pilots and Oregon State Beavers will resume their annual match-up at Ron Tonkin Field on April 21.
