PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland beach volleyball team has added 2018 Big-Sky Libero of the year Alycia Wodke to their roster, announced head coach Dylan Hamilton on Monday.
Â
"Alycia comes to UP with an impressive background in both beach and indoor volleyball," said Hamilton. "We expect her to make an impact immediately from both a performance and leadership standpoint. She is determined to be the best player on the court and knows how to work hard and compete for what she wants. We are very excited to have Alycia on board as a Pilot this season."
Â
Wodke, a Eugene, Ore., native, spent her last two collegiate seasons with the University of Idaho. As a Vandal, she accumulated 1,106 digs, 213 assists and 43 service aces. She capped her Idaho career with 634 digs in 2018, good for 18th in the nation and helped her earn All Big-Sky Second Team honors. Previously, Wodke notched 813 kills & 843 digs at the College of Southern Idaho, earning Region Player of the Year and NJCAA All-America Honors.
Â
Describing her first experiences on joining the Pilots, Wodke spoke fondly of the team's authenticity and player-first mind-set.
Â
"I could immediately see that the coaches at UP cared about me as a person first and foremost," said Wodke. "They genuinely want to help me evolve into the best version of myself, and that is such a rare characteristic to come by. Most importantly I want to enjoy my experience here, I know this is exactly where I am supposed to be and I am incredibly thankful to be playing my final collegiate season at the University of Portland."
