SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- After capturing their first West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball Championship last season, Loyola Marymount was selected as the favorite to win the WCC Championship two years in a row in a poll of the league coaches. The No. 9 team in the country captured a total of 36 points, along with all six first-place votes. The Portland Pilots were selected to finish seventh.
During 2019, Portland recorded their first season with multiple WCC wins as a program, defeating the Pacific Tigers twice at the Santa Cruz WCC Mid-Season Invitational. The Pilots 2's pair featuring returning junior Carey Williams led the team in dual victories with five.
This season, the Pilots will return seniors Shayla Hoeft, Emma Scanlan and sophomore Sarah Strong, all three players being featured within Portland's top three pairs. Strong, the Pilots first ever beach volleyball recruit, will be looking to build off her solid freshman campaign.
Portland opens their 2020 season February 29
th, hosting the Oregon Ducks at the Frenchman's Bar Regional Park. The Pilots match will tip-off at 11 AM, with directions to the match's location being featured in the pre-match review.
The 2020 West Coast Conference Beach Volleyball Championships will be held at Ocean Beach Park in Santa Monica, California. The tournament runs April 17-18.
