MISSOULA, Mont. – The Portland women's tennis team defeated Montana 6-1 on Friday at the Peak Racquet Club.

The Pilots (3-2) secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Emily Soares and Laura Okazaki cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 3 and then freshmen Iva Zelic and Jana Tanevska clinched with a 6-3 victory at No. 2. Zelic made her collegiate debut after enrolling at Portland in January.

Senior Jelena Lukic doubled the lead with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Julia Ronney. Soares beat Lauren Dunlap 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to make it 3-0 Portland.

Fresman Neli Sunjic provided the match-clinching point with a 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 victory against Maria Goheen at No. 3 singles. Zelic then outlasted Olivia Oosterbaan 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles to win both of her debut matches.

Tanevska picked up Portland's final point with a win at No. 5 singles, while Montana's Alex Walker pulled out a three-set win at No. 6 for the lone Montana point.

The Griz (1-11) have played a rigorous non-conference schedule which included three losses to ranked teams in Utah (2) and Denver, as well as defeats against Arizona, Minnesota and Michigan State.

The Pilots will conclude the road trip by taking on Montana State (2-9) on Saturday at 8 a.m. at the Peak Racquet Club.
