STANFORD, Calif. – Portland freshman Sally Pethybridge won both of her singles matches on Friday to advance to the Round of 32 at the ITA Northwest Regionals, hosted at the Taube Family Tennis Center.

Pethybridge knocked off Astrid Olsen of Washington in a three-set thriller to open the tournament. She won a first set tiebreaker and then clinched with a 6-4 victory in the third. Pethybridge followed with a 7-6, 6-1 win against Jennifer Kida of Eastern Washington on Friday night. She will face San Francisco's Simran Chhabra on Saturday at noon in the Round of 32.

Portland's roster faced a tough opening round draw with four players falling to seeded opponents.

Rain forced a delay to the start of the tournament and pushed first round doubles to Saturday morning. The Pilots will have four doubles teams in action tomorrow.
