Box Score NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – Portland women's tennis concluded play Saturday at the CSUN Matador Invitational. The Pilots were highlighted by singles victories from Jana Tanevska and freshman Sally Pethybridge.

Tanevska reached the Singles D Draw semifinals with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Paige Alter of Sacramento State before falling to Sarah O'Connor of New Mexico in three sets. Pethybridge picked up a comeback win against BYU's Anastasia Abramyan in the top flight consolation draw.

"We were definitely pushed outside of our comfort zone in this event and that is exactly what we needed at this point," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "The conditions were brutal on day one and to finish with four singles wins was an effort that made me very proud. Sally had a great win against one of the top WCC players on day two and Jana made it to her second semifinals in two weeks, which was great. We definitely got better and tougher as a team this fall, our young players showed a lot of growth and we are all very excited to get back to dual matches in January."

Portland's spring season begins at the Long Beach State Invitational on Jan. 21-23 and then the team's first dual match will be at Portland State on Friday, Jan. 28.
