PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland women's basketball forward Lucy Cochrane continues to rack up the honors after a stellar first week on The Bluff, this time being named to the NCAA 'Starting Five' after the first week of action.
Cochrane was dominant in her first week as a Pilot. Through her first two games, Cochrane averaged 11 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks per contest. She posted a double-double in Portland's 67-46 win over the Weber State Wildcats with 14 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Her four blocks were the most by a Pilot since Sara Zaragoza had four in 2018. Zaragoza was the last Pilot to have more than four blocks in a game, getting six in 2014.
The Australia native stuffed the stat sheet again in Portland's most recent game against Stanford. She had eight points, six rebounds, four blocks, four assists and two steals against the No. 7 team in the country. The last time a Pilot had at least four blocks in consecutive games was when Rachel Warren did so back in 2007.
The Pilots are 2-1 so far to start the year, with wins over the UC San Diego Tritons and Weber State and a loss to Stanford. Their win over UCSD – a 91-48 drubbing at the Chiles Center – was their largest home victory since 1996.
Next up, the Pilots are headed to beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii for the Bank of Hawai'i Classic. They'll play the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors first on Friday, Nov. 19 at 9 p.m. before taking on the Prairie View A&M Panthers on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
