SPOKANE, Wash. – The Portland Pilots went 10-4 in singles on day two of the Gonzaga Invitational held on Saturday at the Stevens Center. Iva Zelic and Rimona Rouf advanced to the finals of their respective draws, while two Pilot doubles teams will go for titles on Sunday as well.

"Today was a great day for us against some great competition," Portland head coach Filip Zivkovic said. "Iva battled herself as much as her opponents but managed to play her best tennis when it mattered the most showing great poise on big points.


"Rimona has been absolutely dominant and her level of play just gets higher with every match. We have been very impressed with her this fall."

Zelic won back-to-back three-setters on Saturday in the top-flight draw. She held off Washington's Hiraru Sato in the quarterfinals and outlasting Gonzaga's Adrianna Sosnowska in the semifinals. Zelic will face Catherine Broerman of Gonzaga in the finals. Freshman Sally Pethybridge defeated the No. 2 seed in the draw from Oregon before falling to Broerman in the semifinals.

"Sally had another big win against a PAC-12 opponent in a grueling match," Zivkovic said. "She just didn't have enough gas left in the tank after a heartbreaking first set loss in her second match.

Rouf dominated with straight set wins against opponents from Montana and Gonzaga and will face Washington's Yolanda Lin in Sunday's final.

Neli Sunjic and Marija Elenova each won a pair of consolation matches on Saturday, while Jana Tanevska reached the semifinals of her draw before dropping a hard-fought match.


"Neli and Marija were resilient," It's always hard to come back and play after tough losses on day one and they really stepped it up and played incredible tennis today.

"Jana played very a solid first match and I was impressed by her execution. She had opportunities in both sets in her semis but came up just short. She is working hard and I am sure that she will grow from today's experience."

The tournament concludes with the remaining doubles and championship singles on Sunday.

"Overall, we got exactly what we were hoping for in this event so far," Zivkovic noted. "We have had a lot of good, hard-fought matches and we are getting better by the day."
