PORTLAND, Ore. -- In their first home match of the season, the Portland Pilots women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the Eastern Washington Eagles. Iva Zelic and Lela Daszuta earned the two points for the Pilots with victories in the No. 1 and No. 5 singles matches.

The doubles matches went down to the wire with the No. 3 match deciding the point. Lela Daszuta and Jana Tanevska fell to a 4-1 deficit but managed to push Louise Waite and Yasmin Mansouri to a 5-5 tie. Waite and Mansouri, however, pulled through in the final two sets to secure the doubles point for the Eagles.

Zelic won both her singles and doubles match in dominant fashion. Zelic partnered with Marija Elenova to defeat Zoey Nelson and Rylee Braeden and followed that up by beating Scout Mathews 6-2 in straight sets.

Louise Waite earned the clinching point for the Eagles in the No. 4 singles match over Portland's Angela Schuster. The UP junior fought valiantly in the second set to tie it 5-5, but came up just short. Daszuta won her singles match shortly after, but Eastern Washington had already clinched.

The Pilots will be back at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center on Friday Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. when they take on the Portland State Vikings. Portland home matches will have free live video through Playsight and point-by-point scoring through Tennis-Ticker. Links are available at PortlandPilots.com.
