SALEM, Ore.---The Pilots beach volleyball team returned to play in the pairs tournament hosted by the Corban Warriors on Sunday, going 1-5 overall on day two to complete the weekend.
Â
Shayla Hoeft and Alycia Wodke earned Portland's sole win, defeating a pair from Boise State in three sets. The Pilot 1s next saw a tough matchup with the 1s pair from Washington, but the Huskies managed to overcome Hoeft and Wodke in the battle.
Â
The teams of Sophie Lee and Kendall Nolan, and Maluhia Hirahara and Krysten Bugarin both faced pairs from Boise State and Corban, who were able to hold off the Pilots on the day.
Â
"I thought the girls showed tremendous toughness and grit playing in our first two day tournament of the season," said head coach Dylan Hamilton. "We competed hard and learned a lot against some of the top beach athletes in the PNW, and we are looking forward to getting back to work this week on the sand."
Â
The Pilots will have a short break before returning to the sand on the weekend of April 3rd and 4th for more matches with Corban in Salem. Start times are still TBA.
