SALEM, Ore.---The Portland Pilots beach volleyball team opened their season with an exhibition match against Corban University on Sunday, with the Pilots and the Warriors finishing 3-3 down in Salem.

1s pair Shayla Hoeft and Alycia Wodke went 2-0 against the Warriors, sweeping their first game and winning the second in three sets.

2s pair Kendall Nolan and Sophie Lee lost both matches, going 0-2 in the first match and 1-2 in the second.

3s pair Krysten Bugarin and Maluhia Hirahara went 1-1 on the day, winning their first match 2-0 before the Warriors held them off in the second.

"I thought the girls played well overall, this being our first match in over a year," said head coach Dylan Hamilton. "We had an opportunity to see where we matched up against a tough Corbin squad, and we competed hard. We have a lot to work on, but the girls are excited to get back to the grind on Tuesday, and compete again next weekend!"

The Pilots will face Corban for two more matches in Salem next weekend, on both Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 13 and 14. Start times are still TBA.
