NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Portland men's cross country program was recognized in this year's 2020 NCAA Division I Academic Awards, announced the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday. The Pilots were honored as an
All-Academic Team with their 3.19 cumulative team GPA this past season.
Five members of the team also garnered
individual All-Academic accolades, including Cathal Doyle, Zak Kirk, Stan Niesten, Riley Osen, and Bradley Peloquin.
"It is great to see so many Pilots recognized for their academic commitment," said head coach Rob Conner. "Great students and great athletes. Very proud of each of them."
Overall, there were 199 men's teams and 187 individuals earned Division I All-Academic awards. In order to qualify teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Individual student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and have either qualified for the national championship meet or finished top-5 at their respective conference championship.
