VANCOUVER, Wash. – The University of Portland women's rowing team won the varsity four race at the Portland Invite Saturday morning at Vancouver Lake. The event was a dual meet against conference rival Saint Mary's with the Gaels taking both the varisity eight races.
"It was great to get back on the racecourse and see a conference opponent after such a long time," Portland head coach Gulliver Scott said. "The team learned a lot from all three races and I know they're eager to make some adjustments and get back to practice next week."
Coxed by Sage Iona and stroked by Katie Bayford, Portland's varsity four posted a time of 8:32.8 to defeat the Gaels by nearly 28 seconds. Kirra Klassen, Tamsen Dean and Alondra Bernal joined Iona and Bayford in the Pilot boat.

The first varsity eight was coxed Sophie Osborn with Desi Petrova on stroke and came across the line in 7:11.3. The Gaels first varsity eight was clocked at 7:03.5.

Portland's second varsity eight was coxed by Emma Papenhausen and stroked by Lilly Landers and posted a tie of 7:27.2. The Saint Mary's boat recorded a time of 7:19.5.
The Pilots will be back at it next week for a dual meet against conference rival Gonzaga on Saturday, April 10. The race will take place at Silver Lake located in Medical Lake, Wash.
