SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland sophomore right-hander Peter Allegro has been named the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance out of the bullpen for the Pilots. Allegro picked up the save in 4.2 innings of scoreless relief in Portland's 9-6 win against Pepperdine in Friday's series opener.

The Tacoma, Wash. native allowed just one baserunner and struck out eight Waves batters in earning his third save of the season.

Allegro came on in the fifth inning with the bases loaded and only one out. He got a flyout and fielder's choice to limit the damage and maintain Portland's 9-6 lead. Allegro then cruised through the final four innings to pick up the save, only allowing one baserunner on a hit by pitch. He struck out two batters in each of the final four frames to match his single-game, career high of eight punchouts.

Allegro joins Christian Peters to become the second Pilot this season to garner pitcher of the week honors, while shortstop Chad Stevens has twice been named the WCC Player of the Week.

Portland improved to 13-8 in WCC play with the series win against Pepperdine and sit alone in fourth-place in the league standings. The Pilots will visit Washington State on Tuesday at 1 p.m., before hosting league-leading Gonzaga for a three-game homestand this weekend.
