SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland junior shortstop Chad Stevens was named to the All-West Coast Conference first team, highlighting the nine Pilots who earned All-WCC recognition this season. Senior pitcher Christian Peters and freshman first baseman Sam Brown also earned All-WCC second team honors, as voted on by the WCC's 10 head coaches.
Stevens was a steady presence for the Pilots this season at the plate. He led the team in batting average (.333), total hits (67), doubles (19), home runs (eight), RBI's (29), slugging percentage (.547) and on-base percentage (.402). His 67 hits and 19 doubles ranked first in the WCC, and he also finished second in total bases (110) and extra-base hits (27). Stevens was named the WCC Player of the Week twice this season.
Peters was one of the best hurlers in the conference this season, posting the second-best ERA in the WCC at 2.63. He was also fourth in WHIP (1.12) and strikeouts (78). He is one of just three pitchers to have earned WCC Pitcher of the Week honors multiple times this season.
Brown was one of the best freshmen in the conference, batting .315 with five home runs, 16 doubles and a triple. His 16 doubles ranked fifth among WCC players and first among freshmen. He was fifth among WCC freshmen in batting average and third in slugging percentage (.495) and second in extra-base hits (22).
Six Pilots earned All-WCC honorable mention: Sophomore pitcher Peter Allegro, sophomore two-way player Brett Gillis, redshirt freshman left fielder Jake Holcroft, sophomore center fielder Briley Knight, junior pitcher Eli Morse and freshman second baseman Jake Tsukada. Brown, Holcroft and Tsukada were also all named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.
