The Portland women's tennis team has split this weekend with six players competing at the Saint Mary's Invitational and two at the Gonzaga Invitational. Play began at both tournaments on Friday and the Pilots had three singles players win in the top-flight singles of the SMC Invite to highlight the day.

Top-seeded Iva Zelic cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Olivia Rook of host Saint Mary's. Freshman Meagan Pearson knocked off Carolotta Nonnis Marzano of Fresno State 6-3, 6-1, while sophomore Sally Pethybridge pulled out a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over No. 8 seeded Cristina Flaquer of Fresno State. All three will play Round of 16 matches on Saturday.

Freshman Alaia Rubio Perez advanced in the SMC Invite Red Singles Draw with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 win over Dasee Carter of Santa Clara. Rose Watanabe and Kylie Canubida also had a doubles win over a tandem from UC Davis in the Red Draw.

In Spokane, Rimona Rouf won a three-setter against Scout Mathews of Eastern Washington before falling to Portland State's Mariya Ponomareva in a hard-fought three-setter.
