Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Portland women's tennis dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 54 Washington State Thursday in the opening round of the 2025 WCC Tennis Championships at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Pilots conclude the season with a 9-10 overall record, while the Cougars advance to face San Diego on Friday.

In their final matches representing Portland, seniors Sally Pethybridge and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic played great tennis, but the Pilots were unable to get over the hump against Washington State.

In a very close doubles point, the Cougars overcame deficits at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions for 7-5 victories. Pethybridge and Rubio Perez were tied 2-2 in a tiebreaker at the No. 1 position when the match was abandoned.

Washington State started strong in singles by winning the first set in all six matches. The Pilots battled back at numerous positions, but the Cougars were able to hold on for the victory. WSU earned straight set wins at No. 6, No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.

Pethybridge was leading Maxine Murphy 4-2 in the third set at No. 1 singles when the match was abandoned.

The Pilots are expected to only lose two players from the 2025 lineup as Pethybridge and Dimitrijevic are the lone seniors on the roster.
