Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Portland women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the Santa Clara Broncos Friday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Pilots drop to 6-8 overall and 1-2 in West Coast Conference play, while the Broncos improve to 8-5 and 2-1 in WCC matches.

Portland took the doubles point to grab the early lead. Santa Clara won at the No. 1 position, but Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Neli Sunjic earned a 6-1 victory at No. 3. The Pilot duo of Iva Zelic and Angela Schuster secured the point with a 7-5, comeback win at No. 2 doubles.

All six singles matches were settled in straight sets with Santa Clara going ahead with wins at No. 3 and No. 2, respectively. Dimitrijevic evened the score with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the No. 5 position.

Zelic cruised to her 12th consecutive singles win at the top of the lineup with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Finley Kalinic to make it 3-2 Portland.

Santa Clara secured the team win as Velizara Fileva pulled out a victory at No. 4 singles and then Giulia Hayer outlasted Schuster in a pair of tiebreakers at the No. 6 position.

Portland continues its Bay Area road trip against the San Francisco Dons on Saturday at 2 p.m.
