NEWBERG, Ore. – Current Portland Pilots women's basketball head coach Mike Meek will be inducted into the George Fox 26
th Sports Hall of Fame class on Saturday, Oct. 1 in recognition of his stellar career as head coach of the Bruins.
Meek was head coach of the Bruins from 2010-19, posting an overall record of 230-35 and a winning percentage of .868, the highest winning percentage of any Fox head coach. Meek led George Fox to two NCAA Division III title game appearances, eight NCAA tournament appearances, six Northwest Conference titles and seven Top 25 appearances in the season's final poll. He was a three-time NWC Coach of the Year and was the D3hoops.com Coach of the Year in 2012, developing four All-Americans during his nine-year run.
Meek has experienced continued success with the Pilots, leading them to their first West Coast Conference tournament championship since 1994 and earning them an NCAA playoff berth for the first time since 1997 back in 2020. The Pilots were also runners-up in the 2021 WBI, earning their first ever playoff victory, and then followed that the next year with an appearance in the 2022 WNIT. The Pilots have posted two 20-win seasons under Meek, which account for two of the five 20-win seasons the Pilots have had in their Division I history.
Last season, the Pilots went 20-11 and finished fourth in the WCC, their third straight top-five finish in the conference. Their berth to the WNIT last season was their first since 2010, and with their win over the Colorado State Rams in the first round, the Pilots had their first home playoff win and first WNIT win ever.
Pilot fans can get their first look at this season's squad on Saturday, Oct. 8 with the first ever Purple and White Scrimmages. The event is an opportunity to see both the men's and women's basketball teams in action and to formally introduce this season's squads. Doors open for the event at 1:30 p.m., with the women's team scrimmaging from 2:00-3:00 p.m. and the men's team scrimmaging from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
